2004-1 newsletter added to archives

Hi Mark,
I've always had a soft spot for kit cars and motorbikes and
always fancied a 3 wheeler. I'm sure Lomax's and suchlike are great fun but
I like the way the Spirit gives the best of 2 and 4 wheels. I'm now on the
lookout for a Spirit(Free or Kindred). I'm in Aberdeen but am willing to
travel for the right car.I don't mind if it's needing a lot of work as long
as it's all there with a V5. Could you let me know if you hear of anyone
selling a cheap Spirit(Sorry-I'm Scottish!!)

Thanks

Ian McBride

Kit car show dates , thanks to Ian James, also supplied a useful link to the DVLA site on number plates,
and the following email received from Ian regarding an interesting tour of the north coast of Scotland
Dear Mark ,
Some photo’s for the web site I have just returned from a 1450 mile , 5 day tour of Scotland including a drive across the top of Britain from Durness to John O’Groats . Is this a first for a Spirit ? Maybe not but a fabulous time was had by both myself and my son Gareth Photo’s show us at Dunnett Head the most northerly point of mainland Britain
John O’Groats And fixing our only breakdown , replacement of yet another exhaust mount bobbin on the Spirit .Where did it break Just outside the tourist information office in Durness of course 150 yds from the seaWhen I say only breakdown , on the final day the weather was appalling with spray everywhere
Needless to say the Spirit coughed and spluttered all day as the Carb continually iced up and the damp got to The engine . The DRK was also affected by the damp
Full story in the mag ( well I’ll send it to Mr Loughlin and hope for the best ! Regards Ian James

Ah HA its a mystic!!owned now by Jim Davies

I have moved home so my new details are in the address section of the Members only bit
Paul Corner is working on putting fuel injection into his kindred, see the report...Multisquirt

Thought I'd keep you abreast of my build to date, have been carving foam at the back end and this is mark one version, not quite right so will add more foam and re-carve to get a fuller shape , but the beginnings are there. Marks build
Added a few pictures of a car that myself and Tony liked at the Stafford show a few years back and never saw the man who promised the world and delivered bugger all, like most kit car manufacturers. The BOMB

If You have received a Sorn notice, then Do remember to hand it in to the post office else the nice DVLA will fine you plenty plenty for not. Ian James recently got a love letter from them even though his build was off road in garage. Fine was paid .So its another money collecting exercise from our wonderful Government

Couple more parts diags added
Added Modifications page,
if you have any interesting Mod that you think people should know about, and I'm not talking about that extension Tony, then let me add it to this page.

New Lighting diagrams
from Marten Bowtle for SVA compliance and all the visible sectors(build articles)

Started adding the part numbers for the renault 5, this is going to be on going to bear with me !! Parts

3 new build notes articles that I asked Marten Bowtle to do for the club site regarding building a spirit. Marten came up trumps with 3 great pages of build info for any body interested in building a kit, invaluable stuff that is very useful.

Another kindred , unfinished kit has been put up for sale , see items for sale.

Doug Hollingworth has bought Peter garforths kindred as peter wanted to go hill climbing in his but the rules do not allow 3 wheelers, shame!!

Great new tech tip from Marten Bowtle on replacing drive shaft gaiters, what a star this man is, go to Articles, and click on technical. Also Martin informs me"I have two stainless steel beer kegs that I used to build the rolling chassis on.
These are free to anyone that can collect. (They were pulled out of the river Yare as a navigation hazard so are not suitable for selling back to the brewers.)"

We are mentioned in a new web site called madabout-kitcars.com , club details and a new for sale section so pls. submit any stuff to me and I will forward it to the site owner who will advertise it free of charge.he will also feature any build articles so get writing, though I have been waiting for you lot for years so shall I tell him not to hold his breadth?

I have added the Bayfordthrust logo on the front page as this will show you where you can get four star petrol

Anybody interested in the SVA test should go to http://www.via.gov.uk/vehicle_testing/sva/sva.htm

I have received a CD of photos of the build of Marten Bowtles car and have added it as an adobe pdf file because of the size, please look at this as the effort alone must of taken Marten a while and has lots of useful infor for all builders of spirits

Thank you Marten for the effort.
